One of the Jujutsu Kaisen characters we’ve already talked about as part of the coverage of the Shibuya Incident Arc in the anime is Mei Mei’s younger brother, Ui Ui, and this article will once again address him and his relationship with his sister. After explaining the meaning of “Nee-sama” in the series, we are now going to tell you about a controversial aspect that happened in the most recent episode, which showed a completely naked Mei Mei in bed with her younger brother in Kuala Lumpur. What, if anything, did Mei Mei do with her brother? Keep reading to find out all about it!
- Article Breakdown:
- After defeating the Smallpox Deity, Mei Mei and Ui Ui retreated from Shibuya when they were about to face Pseudo-Geto, with the young boy using his Spatial Transference technique to transport them to Kuala Lumpur.
- Later, the two of them are seen together in a hotel room in a controversial scene that shows a completely naked Mei Mei in bed with her younger brother, talking.
- This scene sparked a lot of controversy online, but from what we can understand, absolutely nothing happened and Ui Ui is probably too young to understand anything, viewing his sister in a very non-sexual way.
Ui Ui used his technique to transfer Mei Mei and him to Malaysia
If you remember the second episode of the Shibuya Incident anime adaptation, you’ll know that Ui Ui was carrying around a large object for Mei Mei, while the two of them were with Yuji. At one point, Yuji went his own way, while Mei Mei and Ui Ui encountered Pseudo-Geto, who let them fight the Smallpox Deity; this was their only major on-screen battle in Shibuya and while it seemed like the Smallpox Deity would kill them, Mei Mei managed to exorcise the powerful curse with a little help from her brother, who used his (limited) abilities to distract the powerful cursed spirit.
After that, the two of them were ready to face Kenjaku, but this did not end well, as Ui Ui had to use his Spatial Transference – his Innate Technique – to teleport them away from Japan, and the two of them ended up in Kuala Lumpur in a hotel room. And this is the location of the controversial bed scene that we are actually talking about.
What did Mei Mei do to Ui Ui in the hotel room? By all means – absolutely nothing!
A hotel room in Kuala Lumpur. Nighttime. We see a fully naked Mei Mei with a bandage on her cheek in bed, turned to the side, facing her brother, who is in the same bed. He is clothed but is blushing. Mei Mei then apologizes to him for making him do something, suggesting that he is probably exhausted; she then asks him whether he wants to sleep in the same bed with her, to which he replies that it is improper. Mei Mei then asks him whether he hates her when she is improper, but he does not answer, as she receives a phone call and answers it.
This scene caused a lot of issues with fans, primarily because of the sexual subcontext of the scene. Mei Mei is Ui Ui’s older sister, and it is understandable that some fans do not think it appropriate for her, completely naked, to actually be in the same bed as Ui Ui, who is probably a pre-teen minor, from what we can gather. His exact age has not been revealed, but he looks like a pre-teen. On top of that, Mei Mei’s lines were highly suggestive, and fans were worried that Akutami wanted to imply something there.
Now, to be straight, Akutami never officially confirmed that anything happened between them, and from the context of the scene, Mei Mei is probably referring to the two consecutive fights they had and the fact that she forced him to use his technique to save them. This makes absolute sense from a narrative perspective and would explain everything, even the dialogue, knowing how close the two of them are in the series. So no, there is probably nothing to worry about – Mei Mei simply apologized for straining her brother too much in battle (he had to use his powers against two powerful opponents to save them both) and offered to stay with her to make him happy, since he is so close.
The scene is, of course, not the most appropriate one, but we assume that Akutami drew it like that intentionally to cause some confusion and to have a controversial scene, but we really don’t have anything official suggesting that there was anything inappropriate there. (Yes, the manga dialogue is a bit different, but our point remains.)
